Talking about pensions is not the most interesting or the most aspiring topic of conversation!
However, we tend to forget how important it is and that our young people have minimum knowledge of pensions.
Jack Parsons spoke at the DC and Master Trust Symposium 2022, at an event where many other amazing professionals spoke on the topics of consolidation, ESG pensions and various opportunities in technology.
Jack took to the stage and the first thing he expressed was that there was a lack of young people at the event.
Why weren’t our young people interested in speaking about pensions? Why don’t our young people have much knowledge about pensions? Why don’t schools teach young people about pensions?
All these questions amounted to many nodding heads in the crowd… A unison of agreement, that more conversation and information was important on this topic for our young people.
The conversation turned to a more sensitive and emotional topic of how young people have been affected by the pandemic and how things have changed for them.
Jack shared the difficulties he faced in the lockdown, in regard to his health and how it affected him and unmotivated to get out of bed. He didn’t care for the amount of money in his bank account or his pensions scheme.
All Jack wanted was his health restored but the whole experience made him respect time more.
When the young people of The Youth Group community were asked how they were feeling during the lockdown, Jack shared that many of them said they felt hopeless… Hopeless in finding a job.
However, Jack went on to point out that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, where lockdown brought the flexibility for more people to work remotely.
Those who didn’t have the luxury of living in London, could still be employed by a london based company and be able to expand on their employment exposure.
Finally, Jack stated for future conferences let’s all bring at least one young person with us. So we can teach them the importance of pensions, money management and different work opportunities.
Comments which were greatly welcomed by the audience!
Overall, the conference at the DC and Master Trust Symposium 2022 proved to be an eye opening experience for everyone who attended and may be a new ground of opportunity for the younger generation of future employees.
